Intune without AntiVirus/Malware
-
Monday, May 14, 2012 3:42 PMIs it possible to install Intune on a system without have to install the AV/AM software or the ability to disable it? I ask this in the event there is a preferred AV app by a customer or time left on a subscription. Seems redundant to have two going.

Hi,
Yes it is. Using Agent Policy, you can tell Windows Intune to not use the Windows Intune Endpoint Protection, or to not use it unless a machine isn't currently protected by another Anti-Malware solution.
In both cases, the Windows Intune Endpoint Protection service will be installed on machines, but would be disabled and not impacting your machine. If the situation arises when you need to use the Windows Intune Endpoint Protection service the client agent will be installed automatically and the service would be enabled.
For more information about the Endpoint Protection service and policy settings see this article:

Hope that helps.

Monday, May 14, 2012 8:33 PMOk, looks good. Just one more question. Does this affect the client software to be downloaded, or is this just after the installation?

If if the policy applies to that machine when the client software is installed (policy applies to all machines for example) it will only download the Endpoint Protection service and leave it in a disabled state, only installing the client if the machine becomes unprotected and the policy is set to: Only on computers that are unprotected when Endpoint Protection is installed. If the policy is changed/set after the Endpoint protection client and service have installed the client and service will be disabled and remain on the machine.
Does that answer your question?
