    Dear Support,

I would like to know whether BranchCahce could be deployed in pure WorkGroup Enviroment, we dont have and DC deployed in out Organisation.

We have "Windows Storage Server 2008  R2 Standard SP1 Build 7601" and clients installed with "Windows 7Pro 32 & 64-bit OS"

Before posting this I have read the article in this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637832%28v=ws.10%29.aspx and also link which has steps to configure the server(Weblink: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637785%28v=ws.10%29.aspx). I was following the steps related to configure "Distributed Cache Mode" and Installed Group Policy Management(Feature from Server Manager). When I launched it I was asked to login as Domain User to Manage Group Policy.

Is it necessary that we should have DC installed in our Environment, cant we implement BranCache in WrokGroup Environment..????

Please post any links related to Work in WorkGroup Environment if available and applicable.

    Thanks, Ram.

We can deploy BranchCache in a domain-based or non-domain based environment.
If clients are domain members then we can configure the settings for clients via group policy otherwise we can manually set it with following the steps that listed in the first link that rt3465345 posted if we are referring about Distributed Cache Mode.
Content server could also be a non-domain joined computer :

    Hi  Tiger Li,

Thank you for the detailed documentation provided, will try this out but I guess I could only deploy a  content server but not File Server.

As the document says it will only support Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate but not Professional(We have got only Professional OS installed on clients as mentioend in my earlier post). Anyways will try installing a trail version of Enterpirse and would check out the functionality.

Do Provide some documentation which helps to configure File server(Distributed Cache Mode an in Hosted Cache Mode).

For now I would love to get documentaion for configuring BranchCache between Storage Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Pro clients(Distibuted Cache Mode/ Hosted Cache Mode.)

    Thanks you so much,

    Ram

    Hi there -

All of the currently available BranchCache documentation for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is at BranchCache for Windows Server 2008 R2.

There is no documentation on configuring BranchCache between Storage Server and Windows 7 Professional clients - as previously mentioned, BranchCache is not a feature of Windows 7 Professional.

    Thanks -

    Hi James,

That is a great help indeed, our clients do use Win 7 Pro.

As a test run I would try the documentation provided by "Mr. Tiger Li" between Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Ent trail version.

It will help me to learn a new topic, this forum has become really supportive...  I am gaining the best out of it and hope to continue the same in future.

Thank you for posting, will surely go through the link you provided.

    Ram.
