I use SmartFTP on my 64 bit windows server 2008 enterprise machine.
Currently when I use SmartFTP to transfer html files over to ftp sites.
When I do this under this pc windows crashes with a SmartFTP has stopped working error.
I have contacted SmartFTP first as I have a support agreement with them for their software however even under the latest beta build of their software this still occurs.
I have also provided them with a dump report from the windows debugging tools which was 600 MB+ .
After providing them with this set of files the response from their developer is as follows:
Hello Addison .. Thank you. I got the dump you can delete it if you want. In case you are interested the stack trace is below. It looks like the crash is actually in the inetcomm.dll from MS. Does it happen with every HTML file you have in the preview? Or just with some particular files? BTW: Do you have the SP2 for Vista installed? They have also been able to reproduce this issue on a newly configured 2008 server.
I would like some help to resolve and fix this issue as it is an extremem hinderence causing me to either close the preview window constantly as I use it regularly or to use my laptop to do all my ftp work on which is also not the best.
I would appreciate some help on this issue.

hi there,
As the issue is more likely with smartftp client which uses inetcomm.dll, i would first approach smartftp support which you have already done .
For application crash / hang issues we need to analyze the crash dump file .As it is not effective for us to debug the crash dump file here in the forum, if you want to know the root cause and the resolution, I would like to suggest that you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607
Also its worth posting your issue in IIS forum where in engineers might have troublehsooted the similar issue.

did you had a chance to go through the action plan from my earlier post?

Saturday, July 18, 2009 1:33 PMSorry for my late response.
I no longer have this issue as the Server in question stop responding due to a different, completely unrelated issue and as such been resetup.
Will advise if I get this issue again.

Sainath:
Contrary to your "analysis" it is a bug in Windows 2008 (SP2) that can be reproduce with the Windows Explorer as well:
1. Enable the Preview pane if is not enabled yet or go to 4
2. Click on Organize button
3. a) Layout->Preview Pane
3. b) If Preview Pane is not in the sub menu, click on Folder and Search Options instead. In the Task paragraph enable Show previews and filters
Go to 3. a)
4. Select a .html file
5. The preview surrogate host crashes as shown below
