AnswerHyper-V R2 licensing Guests

I have read the threads on here and elsewhere concerning licensing of guests on hyper-v R2.  I do understand that hyper-v r2 is free with no guest OS licenses, Enterprise gets you 4 OS's and Datacenter is unlimited.

    My questions are:
    1. If I get Enterprise, that gives me 4 Enterrpise 2k8 licenses..can I add additional guests above 4 for licenses I already have (2k3, etc.)
    2. Outside of hardware considerations, is their a maximum guests allowed in hyper-v?

    Thanks for any clarification.

There are no limits to the numer of guests you can run based on edition - it is strictly a licensing situation.
Blanket statement - it is your responsibility to have a license for each guest.

There are no documented maximum number of guests that I am aware of (I can always be proven wrong).
Your hardware (RAM will be the first limit) will always limit the number of guests that you can have running at any point in time.  And your storage will limit the number of configured VMs prior to other hardware constraints.

Also, the trickle down or VM granting license only applies to Server OSs.  If you run any client VMs, they need seperate licensing.
