Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 VDI support?
- how is VDI supported on Hyper-V Server 2008 R2? will the Remote desktop Virtualization Host server Agent run on this server edition?
Answers
Hello,
The Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 supports Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), according to the following article:
Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008: R2
http://www.microsoft.com/hyper-v-server/en/us/r2.aspx
As this product seems still in Release Candidate phase, and we don’t have the test environment, I cannot give you a detailed information on how to configure VDI on the Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. However, based on my understanding, the configurations of VDI on Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 should have no much differences with the Windows Server 2008 R2. It is an essential edition of Windows Server 2008 and provide only Hyper-V related features, from my knowledge.

I believe VDI is not supported by the free Hyper-V Server R2 edition. You will have to use a standard, enterprise, or datacenter. You can use Core installations of any of the three version, though.
