    Hi,

I am trying out Aventail VPN client in windows 8 x86 PC.

After 1st time installation, it works fine. Once disconnect and trying to reconnect it fails in PPP negotiation phase. If i will uninstall and reinstall its again working for the 1st time. I have captured the pockets in both the working and non working condition but dont know how to upload the same here. Just attaching  the screen shot from NetMon.

I found that it fails in LCP negotiations phase.

My understanding is if it works for the 1st time it should work for the consecutive logins as the same code is running . Is OS is stopping some thing some where. I have tried with disabling firewall and antivirus as well but no luck.

Please let me know what else i need to do to make it work? Let me know if any one need the pocket capture.

    Working capture.

Reporting the same issue. It did work on the previous windows 8 release, but not the current one.

Same here, for me also it worked in Dev preview. Did you tried any work around?

    Hi Birajendu,

    Thanks for posting here

So could we try to establish the VPN connect by using Windows built-in VPN program and  see if will reproduce same symptoms.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Thanks for update.

I meant perhaps we can try to test with windows built-in VPN client program in case incompatible issue with new platform .

    Thanks.

I'm running win8 inside virtualbox.  Rebooting doesn't clear problem.  So far the only thing that works is deleting the network adapter from network and sharing center and reinstalling aventail.  No reboot is needed.

if aventail is wedged and won't disconnect, killing the vpn tunnel client from the task manager will force a disconnect

Any success in locating a solution?  I'm running Win8 natively (not virtual).  I have this exact same issue.  Connects the first time.....but never again....until uninstall/reinstall.

It's even worse in the new build released on 5/31/12 where the client just crashes completely.

Yeah, x86 it works fine. are you able to use any other dial-up, like 3G modem with x64 windows 8?

I do not have a way to test this since my 2 3G modems (Alcatel) lacks the proper drivers for Windows 8 (not sure if these exists)...

Confirming this is still as broken in the RTM as it was in the preview release from 5/31.

We will have to wait for a fix from Dell/Sonicwall I guess :(

Not sure who reported that x86 works fine. It's not. Same issue as x64. First attempt is successfull and then only reinstallation will allow connection.

Both version of RTM X64 & x86, have the same issue.

Spoke to Sonic Wall support and "its being looked into"

    :-(

SonicWall had at least a year to test their software with Beta versions of Windows 8. They waited untill RTM shipped to start looking into issues?

     Proposed Answer

I found a way to minimize a pain in the meantime. This would not require entire client reinstallation. Once initial setup is completed, make a copy of VPN connection adapter in Network Connections like below. Each of those will allow one connection, then you have to delete it. Or you can just create a copy of connection after each attempt, this will force you to go through simple setup but it's faster then reinstall/install.

If you are using 10.5.x release than upgrade to 10.5.6 that supports both x86 and x64 clients for windows 8.

if you are in 10.6.x than wait for couple of months 10.6.2 will come with windows 8 support.

I have the 10.6.13 version right now,

so the only opiton I have is to downgrade to 10.5.6 version?

I just got off the phone with Dell Sonicwall... running 10.6.2-196+231 hotfix but am still seeing an issue where it starts with "Connecting" then fails after 10 seconds with "VPN Connection Failed.  A connection to the remote computer could not be establised, You might need to change teh network settings for this connection."  Getting RAS errors in Event Viewer with 720 & 828 return codes.

Still no dice in getting the Aventail client working on Windows 8 x64.

    Anyone have more luck?
