Task Manager difference between Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
-
Sunday, September 16, 2012 7:50 PMToday I found a strange difference between the Task Manager in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8. In Windows Server 2012 you only see the tabs CPU and Memory by default. Why is this, and how can this be changed, because disk and network are grayed out in Windows Server 2012. Both versions are the RTM.
In Windows 8 we see CPU, Memory, Disk and NetworkWindows Server 2012

Wednesday, September 19, 2012 6:50 AMYes, that's an option, but I use the Task Manager more when troubleshooting performance issues, so that's would be easier to have the overview right there. And Windows 8 has it implemented, why can't it implemented on Windows Server 2012 then?

Is that in a virtual machine or a physical install of Server 2012? -

Hi,
Disk metrics are disabled by default on Windows Server 2012 because of significant performance impact, however, it is enabled in Windows 8.
Use Resource Monitor to gauge Disk and Network IO usage.

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 6:25 PMIs there a registry setting we can turn it on in server 2012 with? perfmon is a hog and I like the simplicity and look of the revamped task manager... Is there a registry key to modify or anything?

Open a command prompt and type
diskperf -y
this enables the disks to show in task manager
but unfortunately, not the columns..... I haven't found an answer to that yet- Edited by Steve Mills Wednesday, November 28, 2012 1:51 PM
