Software RAID-1 of system volume

In Server 2008 R2 the following document explains how to use software RAID-1 for the system volume and cloning the system and recovery partitions.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=23476
Does anyone know if this procedure should in theory work with Server "8" Beta? When I attempted it the step where the OS volume is mirrored caused I/O on all spindles in the server rather than just the two which should have been involved. It also took too long to complete for the 50GB volume ( compared with 2008 R2 ) so I killed it.
It is possible that there is a new way to do this with storage spaces/pools but I haven't seen anything that says how.
Any comment/help appreciated. For what it's worth on the whole we use hardware RAID but have a few boxes ( Sun X4540 ) for which software RAID is the only option.

Upgrade of a 2008 R2 install with a software RAID-1 volume set up following that document results in the following on screen

:(
Your computer ran into a problem and needs to restart
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this code: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
It's collecting error info and will restart in: 0 seconds
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn't restart automatically but a reset following that appears to take the install to completion. Only tried this combination once so not sure I'd take it as evidence of an issue. Of course the BCD and recovery data needs attention after the upgrade but that is only to be expected.
The same hardware with a simple system volume goes through the upgrade from 2008 R2 to the Server "8" Beta without issue.

Hi Kenneth!
Have you solved your problem? I can't find guide for setting up software raid 1 in Windows Server 2012.
Thanks!

I would rather buy a new box before using software RAID on a production server. IMHO.Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL

:)
Me to. But what if budget doesn't allow this? Or if you must to setup software RAID for any other reason? Do you suggest that software RAID (mirroring) should be removed from Windows? :)
