Windows Server Installation hanging
-
Wednesday, January 16, 2013 8:59 PMHi,I've been trying to install Windows Server 2012 (but I've tried with Windows 7, 8, and Server 2008 R2) onto an NVIDIA (EVGA) 680i motherboard but I'm having an issue with the installation hanging at "Expanding Files". I've not been able to get past 10% before the installation hangs, and I've left it running overnight to confirm that it's not just "slow". It also seems to stop responding to the keyboard/mouse and all HDD activity stops.I've run the installation a fair few times, removing and swapping out all of hardware (HDD, RAM, CPU, PSU, DVD drive) and I'm still having the same issue. I've also tried installing using a USB image of Windows.I've managed to get the setupact.txt from one of the failed installations and can see that the last few lines of the file don't point to any errors (below). I can confirm that on at least two consecutive installations, the installation has stopped at the same point.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS PopulateRootPathsOnBBCallBack: Detected root file/folder [Users\] in OS image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS PopulateRootPathsOnBBCallBack: Detected root file/folder [Windows\] in OS image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\bootmgr] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\BOOTNXT] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\Documents and Settings] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\$RECYCLE.BIN\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\PerfLogs\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\Program Files\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\Program Files (x86)\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\ProgramData\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\Users\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info IBS MoveOldOSFiles:File/folder [E:\Windows\] doesn't exist; no need to move it before applying image.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info [0x06412c] IBSLIB SetCheckpoint: Checkpoint("WinPEArchiveOldWindowsFoldersStartCheckpoint") in progress...2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info [0x06412e] IBSLIB SetCheckpoint: Checkpoint "WinPEArchiveOldWindowsFoldersStartCheckpoint" successfully set.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info [0x06412c] IBSLIB SetCheckpoint: Checkpoint("WinPEArchiveOldWindowsFoldersDoneCheckpoint") in progress...2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info [0x06412e] IBSLIB SetCheckpoint: Checkpoint "WinPEArchiveOldWindowsFoldersDoneCheckpoint" successfully set.2013-01-16 18:09:29, Info [0x06412c] IBSLIB SetCheckpoint: Checkpoint("WinPEImageApplyReadyCheckpoint") in progress...

When you tried using a USB image for installation, was it a USB of the same copy? Or did you try a totally different copy of the media? It sounds like there is something wrong with your installation media..:|:.:|:. tim
