"The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "domainname":  The error was: "DNS name does not exist." (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)  The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domainname  Common causes of this error include the following:  - The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:" In the IP addresses given the IP address of the domain is added, bt still I am getting the above error while addind the domain to a windows machine.

You are in the wrong area.  This is for Forum Issues only.  This forum might be more appropriate: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/category/windowsserver/

I will move this question to the Directory Services forum. Are you attempting to join the Windows Server 2008 computer to an existing domain, or are you attempting to promote the computer to a domain controller in a new domain? Also, what steps did you take when you got the error?

    Hi,

I am trying to connect my windows machine to an existing domain on windows 2008 r2 machine.

I added the IP of the machine having the domain in the DNS of my machine and unchecked the IPv6 in both the machines. Then in My Computer --> Properties, under Computer Name Tab clicked on Change. Then changed the option to domain and tried adding the domain. Then I am getting the above mentioned error.

Can you post an ipconfig /all from both the machine trying to join the domain and DC's.
