Answered Sites and Services automatically generated server issue

    We are in the process of trying to clean up our AD environment and seeing an issue with out Sites and Services.  Our company uses a Hub and spoke set up that goes from our main corporate office to about 20 outside servers that are running as DC's.  When this was set up years ago all those servers but one were connected over T1 links, the other was over a fiber connection to a building across the street.  However whoever set this up just put all the connections in the same defaultsitelink.  Now, due to our company expanding some of these outside building are connecting back to our corporate office over high speed VPN's and Microwave links.   What I need to know is, do I have to create new site links for each of these servers that are on a higher speed connection for KCC to work properly?  Because after we went in to each site and removed a server that was automatically being generated, for some reason AD keeps putting it back in there, even though it's running on a T1 and not any of the higher speed connections.

    Hello,

    I would recommend creating an AD site for each physical site you have. Don't forget to create all used subnets and to link them correctly. Also, move all DCs to correct subnets.

    I would also recommend leaving KCC works without any manual changes. See that: http://blogs.technet.com/b/markmoro/archive/2011/08/05/you-are-not-smarter-than-the-kcc.aspx

    Sorry I guess I forgot to add that each physical site has a AD site for it.  And all our subnets are all already listed in the subnets folder.

    Then just let KCC works :)

    It will generate the topology for you without manual changes.

    Even though it's adding a server to all the sites thats on a much slower connection?

    Yes. Just add the server to the correct AD site and let KCC works.

    If the physical server are placed in the sites and all the subnet are mappd to appropiate site then KCC will generate the required topology you need not woory about the same.

    However if you want to force the topology generation you can run repadmin /kcc *.Also run repadmin /syncall/AdeP to force the replication.
