Printer Deployment
-
Tuesday, May 08, 2012 8:56 PMI have A Server 2008 R2 box which I am running a domain from; I have set up OU's and have organised and set out my users and computers and can confirm that Group Policy is being applied. I have setup the file and printing role and setup an HP P2055DN printer to be deployed by group policy by enabling 'Point and Print Restrictions' and linking the deployment to the appropriate GPO's created earlier. This all appears to be working from my machine when Group Policy is applied but when I close Devices and Printers and open it again I get this ghosted version of the same printer. Is there a reason for this and if so is there a fix?

Hi,
How you deployed this printer, through the policy “Point and Print Restrictions”?
The Point and Print Restrictions group policy enables you to limit the servers to which a user can Point and Print. When a user connects to a printer that is shared on a print server listed in the Point and Print Restrictions group policy, Point and Print installs the necessary printer drivers and does not require any additional user interaction. If the user connects to a shared printer on any other print server, Point and Print will not download a printer driver to the client computer. The user may still be able to use the printer but only if they do not need to download the printer driver.
To deploy a printer through group policy, you can use print management wizard or PushPrinterConnection.exe file.

Wednesday, May 09, 2012 5:28 PMYes the Printer was deployed using the Printer Management within MMC. I have noticed today that I have two P2055DN Printers one is "on <Server Name>" and one simply is named "P2055DN". When you hover over the duplicated printer it says pending deletion. (This is all after a reboot of both the server and my workstation).

Hi,
Is this issue happened on your Server or your client side? Is it happened on a single client or all clients? Are you using remote desktop?
Have you defined printer redirection settings in group policy or Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool?
