Answered Error 502 with Folder Redirection with only one user

    Hi everyone

I'm receiving the following errors for one particular user's redirected Documents folder:

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Pictures" to "\\server\usershares$\username\My Documents\My Pictures".
     Redirection options=0x9021.

The following error occurred: "Can not create folder "\\server\usershares$\username\My Documents\My Pictures"".
     Error details: "Access is denied.".

I've checked my Group Policy settings and "Grant user exclusive rights to Documents" is not set.  I have also made 2 new users in the last week, neither of which had an issue, which is leading me to believe it's not a policy problem.

I'm not sure what else I can check.. the user has full permission on the folders in question.  The only thing I can think of is that this user previously worked here but after he left I deleted his user, profile folders, etc.

Can someone offer me some other troubleshooting steps to look into this?  I can't seem to replicate it on any other account except this one.

    Thanks

    Hi,

As you mentioned the user has been deleted it would be difficult to analyze as this error should not come as the user can not login to generate this error.

Check the below post and see if that helps. (that sure is still asking for the user to login)\

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/ad5a6f6c-a46b-4200-8bd0-02030c6783e7

Can you paste the exact eventlog.

Let us know how it turned out to be.!

    Hi Jack

I think you misunderstood what I said.

This user did leave the organization, so I deleted their user/profile/folders, but has now come back and is therefore recreated and can login.

The event log in my first post is the exact:

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Pictures" to "\\server\usershares$\username\My Documents\My Pictures".
     Redirection options=0x9021.

The following error occurred: "Can not create folder "\\server\usershares$\username\My Documents\My Pictures"".
     Error details: "Access is denied.".

So now she is a NEW user... Is she able to create a folder on the
    redirection path for documents?

NO THEY ARE NOT EVIL, if you know what you are doing: Good or bad GPOs?

Just to make sure - is it really "usershares$\username\My Documents"???
    It SHOULD be "usershares$\%username%\My Documents"...
Notice the % signs surrounding username...

    Hi Primo,

I got similar error when i deleted a user who had foddler redirection ON was deleted and brought back into the system.

    1) He is no more the same user  SID has changed

    2) The folder trying to access is owned by the old user and not the new user.

Here is what i did in my scenario

    1) Renamed the folder on the server and gave Admin the full control

    2) Let the user relogin for him to get new folders on the server and copy the data from the old folder.

    OR

in the old folder permission (remove and) add the user with full permission

    It solved my test scenario.

    Thanks for all the responses!

So now she is a NEW user... Is she able to create a folder on the redirection path for documents?

Yes the user has been recreated and is able to create folders on the redirection path.

Just to make sure - is it really "usershares$\username\My Documents"???
    It SHOULD be "usershares$\%username%\My Documents"...

Notice the % signs surrounding username...

It is really %username%, I just edited the actual username out and used that as a place holder.

I had deleted the user's folder, this is a new one.  Unfortunately the user already has full permissions on the folder.

I took some of these ideas and tried this though:  I renamed the user's folder to username2, created a new folder username with full user permissions, and logged back in with the same thing.

Found some more info too.  Sync Center says Access is Denied on the folder (..\username\My Documents) and in Windows Explorer.

But the user does have full permissions... I wonder if this has something to do with the user being recreated?  I know it's a different SID, but none of this makes any sense.

As an update... the Music folder now works, but I am still getting access denied for the My Documents folder and offline/network path not found for My Pictures and Videos.

I have no idea why Music works but nothing else is.

If I go into the user's folder on the server, Music is the only one that exists.  I didn't create it and even when I tried that it didn't work.

It makes no sense that access denied is on My Documents, yet the My Music folder is working??

I'm just so confused as to what is going on!!

    Hi,

Move the contents of Documents to the new location  DISABLE

Grant user exclusive rights to Documents  DISABLE

Do this on all the folder that you are redirecting.

Here is a similar scenario while testing. The Desktop was giving error and the previous users folder had a folder called "Tango Char" which was not reflecting on the desktop.

I "DISABLED" "Move the contents of desktop to the new location"  and let the user relogin twice

I could see that folder back on the desktop without doing anything.

Afterwards I "Enabled" Move the contents of Desktop to the new location and it was in sync. I create a folder on the desktop and it started reflecting on the roaming folder profile and the error vanished.Server Option that did the change

Unfortunately I hadn't had a chance to try this yet.  I just logged in as the user to check it and it's magically working now.  >.<!!

That's almost worse as I am still not sure what the problem was or how it was fixed either.  I'll mark the suggestion as the answer, but truthfully, I am not 100% sure.  Sorry Cicely.
