    Hey all,

We have just created a Windows 2008 DC as part of our existing W2K3 network and started to test Windows 7 clients. We have created a central store for ADMX files and have copied some across from a Win7 client.

    Now the issue -

When we created a group modelling wizard for a user that has a newly created gpo assigned. The folder redirection doesnt appear in the query results and doesnt work. I've noticed that the simulation is done to a W2K3 DC in our environment. If I select our W2K8 DC the query results shows the folder redirection settings are applied.

What is causing this to happen? This would cause issues if we have multiple DC's per site that are W2K3 and W2K8.

I have tested all replications and no issues. /ForestPrep & /DomainPrep has also been done.

    Regards,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Did you run the Group Policy modeling on the Window Server 2003 or 2008 DC? Folder Redirection policy was changed on Windows Server 2008 and later. Windows 2003 DC may not be able to process the new policy and caused this problem.

It’s suggested to use RSAT tools for Windows 7 to manage new ADMX and GPO files since Windows 7 could manage all policies and Windows 2003 cannot manage new Windows 7 policies.

    Hey,

Sorry I should of said that I performed the GP modeling on Windows 7 using RSAT tools under GPMC. I think it's be design that if I run the GP modeling from RSAT on Windows 7 against a W2K3 DC not all policies are going to appear in the query results. Would that be the case?

    Regards,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Yes, it’s by design that Windows 2003 DC cannot display some new/changed Group Policies in the GP modeling report. We don’t need to worry about it.

If there is other problem, please let us know the detailed information, the GP modeling report is also helpful, if necessary, please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and then give me the download address.

    Thanks.
