An error has occurred while collecting data for Software Restriction Policies.

I am getting the following in
    Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings.

This error impacts the following settings:
    Software Restriction Policies
    Software Restriction Policies/Security Levels
    Software Restriction Policies/Additional Rules
The following errors apply to all of the above settings:
An unknown error occurred while data was gathered for this extension. Details: Unable to cast object of type 'System.String[]' to type 'Microsoft.GroupPolicy.Reporting.Extensions.Registry.UnknownType'.

any ideas what the heck this is about?

    Hi Karon,

    Thanks for your feedback.

There is no newer GMPC for Windows Server 2008 R2 other than the built in one.

    Regards,

    Bruce

    Hi Karon,

Does this problem occur on your Windows 7 Client?

Based on research, this is a known issue in GPMC since Windows 7 Beta version. It may not be fixed currently. However, this should not prevent the policy from applying.

Please run rsop.msc to check if the policy has been applied.

    Regards,

    Bruce

Actually Bruce, it is showing up on my 2008 AD server. Functional level is still 2003. We are in the process of raising the level, but need to wait for some of our 3rd party vendors to get up to speed (iprism will not authenticate to 2008 yet). Is there a new gpmc for 2008 R2?

rsop.msc shows it is being applied, so it is functional, just an irritation!

    Thanks for quick reply!!!

    Well bummer - Thanks Bruce
Looks like we will just have to wait for an update to get rid of the bogus error.
