Issue With Power Settings/Screensaver GPO & Windows 8
-
Thursday, January 17, 2013 8:47 PM
I have a power settings GPO set with the following settings:
- Turn off the display after 15 minutes
I also have a screensaver GPO that turns on the blank screensaver after 30 minutes. It's set to display the logon screen on resume. Users are part of a security group for the 30 minute screensaver.
In Windows XP & Windows 7, this works flawlessly. After 30 minutes the user is displayed the logon screen. On my Windows 8 computers, I find that the policies & settings are properly applied but the logon screen is displayed after only 15 minutes. The only thing I have set to 15 minutes is the above GPO to turn off the monitor.
I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Any ideas?

Hi,
Before going further, would you please let me know how did you configure the two GPO settings? I suggest you could collect the following information for troubleshooting.
GPMC.log
==================
a. On domain controller, click Start ->Run, type GPMC.MSC, it will load the GPMC console.
b. Right click on "Group Policy Result" and choose wizard to generate a report for the problematic computer and user account (please place appropriately). (Choose computer and select the proper user in the wizard)
c. Right click the resulting group policy result and click the "Save Report…" => save report to save the report to a HTML file.
In addition, I suggest we could refer to the following articles to reset the screensaver via Group Policy to see if it could resolve the issue.

In Windows 8 the screen saver time out is located here:
Open GPO: User\Administrative Template\Control Panel\Personalization
Key: Screen Saver Timeout
Value: 1 to 86400 Sec.
I don’t see these settings within your GOP.
