AnswerStartup Script Processing for Laptops off Corporate Network

    Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone has an answer to this little problem that seems to have existed without a solution for quite some time:-

Corporate XP SP2 domain laptop starting up on home network.
Various domain GPOs configured with startup scripts in the netlogon share.
Machine says 'running startup scripts' for some time before showing logon prompt.
If the network connection is pulled then prompt appears.

Why is the machine looking for startup scripts even though the machine is no where near a SYSVOL/NETLOGON?
Can I stop this process from happening with a reg tweak etc?

I don't really want to change the 'Maximum wait time for Group Policy scripts' setting as this may interfere with script processing on the corporate network (and seems like a massive 'workaround').

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Bobby

    Hi Bobby,

You may try to enable Slow link policy to disable startup script:

    Group Policy slow link detection

    Or enable Fast Logon optimization:

    Thanks.

If the machine is connecting to a domain, then that machine will have access to the sysvol/netlogon and will process the group policies if any. Also, I am thinking that at home you might have cached login where the machine still thinks it is in the actual network and looking for the policies.

If the machine is on the corporate network everything works as expected - the machine runs the scripts within seconds.

The laptop has a cached logon, but why would it look for scripts in a place it can't reach if it isn't on the corporate network and can't authenticate to the domain?
