    Hi there,

Our users save their work to a network share on a server.  We would like to warn them when the server is about to be shutdown so they can save their work and log off.  A long time ago we use to use net send but of course this is now a security hole and has been disabled.  Any other ideas.

    Cheers,

Have you considered sending an email?

We are in the education sector so while we email them and put a notice up when they first login still we get the odd user is logged on at the time we want to take the server down.

Don't shutdown during hours when people are expecting to use the server?

Schedule maintenance and let people know in advance that the system will be unavailable on "Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM"
