For Windows Server 2008 32bit:
For Windows Server 2008 64bit:
Restart the computer, press F8 to enter Safe Mode. Install the update.
If the update still cannot be installed, please run the System Update Readiness Tool to analyze the issue:

What’s the result in %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log?
Hope it helps.

- We're seeing this too. The manual update does allow the patch to install, but why would this fail on so many 2008 x64 SP2 servers when offered by Automatic Updates?

Information posted here provided "As-Is". Use at your own discretion. - Manual installation on Server 2008 SP2 worked for me too without having to restart in safe mode.
- I got the same.. - On a fresh HP DL180 G5 w/ Enterprise Server 2008 x64 SP2.
First set of responses I found (through WUS "tips") were pointing to a possible virus infection which I did not follow. (However, SEP 11.0..5002.333 was quickly applied.)
Manually applying the update sans Safe Mode seems to have corrected the issue. - I had the same experience on Windows Server 2008 X64 SP2, manually installing:
sems to have worked without going into safe mode.
