I am new to WDS. I have worked with ZfD... how do you configure PXE in WDS to allow you to upload an image from a workstation to the WDS server ( default path )? Thanks.
I am currently reviewing this:

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 7:32 PMWhen I use the capture image boot file, the "next button" is grayed out right before uploading to the WDS server. In WDS, I issued domain level rights. It is the "New Image Location" screen that ask for the "Server Name" and you can connect to an "Image Group Name:" ( I have created a couple of them ) Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

hi there,
1st step is to prepare the computer where will be installed everything (required software and drivers i mean).
2nd step is to create a capture image on WDS server.
3rd step is you have to run sysprep.exe /oobe /generalize /reboot command on that client machine which you prepare for upload on WDS.
4th step is to press F12 on that client machine and choose those created caputre image which we did on 2nd step.
then there will be a wizard, and after this wizard there will begin a process of uploading your client image configuration on WDS server.
P.S. in case of difficulties i can send u by mail more detailed guide.

Thursday, August 11, 2011 6:39 PMHi, I should mention that the capture image is WindowsPE, but I need to upload a Windows XP Pro image. I ran sysprep and that let me see the local volume. I bet the next button would become active if it were Windows 7.... but it is Windows XP. I appreciate all the help.

Ok, I got the XP image on the WDS server. I had to right click and add the image to my ImageGroup manually. I was waiting for it to appear automagically. I will try to bring down an image on an old workstation and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Friday, August 12, 2011 4:02 PMOk, we are not going with PXE on all our subnets, how can I make a CD that we can boot from that will look and feel "exactly" like a PXE boot? I made a disk using http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709665(WS.10).aspx and it booted to a command prompt. I browsed the cd and found ImageX but I really want it to be the same as the PXE boot. Any idea's? Thanks in advance.
