Demote a DC that also hosts exchange and file shares

I have a client that has 2003 DC and 2 2008 DCs. The 2003 server is also hosting Exchange 2007 and file and print services. I'd like to demote the server to a member server. The 2008 DCs are both global cataloge servers and one of them hosts the FSMO roles. Can I safely demote it without disrupting the other services? Any advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Jacob

No, it's not recommended (it will break exchange) - Do it the otherway arround, install a new exchange box with all desired exchange roles, move mailboxes etc, uninstall exchange and then demote the server as a DC.Enfo Zipper

Thanks Christoffer. Does anyone have any documentation on preforming this type of migration? Should it be safe to first remove Exchange, then demote the server to be a member server (still acting as a file server), and finally migrate the file and print services off? Or do the file and print services need to be removed prior to demotion also?

The file server and the print services can remain until after the demotionEnfo Zipper

Hello,
is that about moving Exchange 2007 to another server
Or migrating Exchange to a new Version:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124350(v=exchg.141).aspx
File/print services are not DC depending, just assure the server stays in the domain during copying/migration from it.
Robocopy can be easy used for the files including all permissions to a new server.
Printbrm is a way to migrate the printers. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722360.aspx
Removing the old server from the domain should always start after all is migrated/copied.

Friday, February 22, 2013 2:58 AMThis will be an upgrade from exchange 2007 to 2010. So my plan is: 1) Upgrade and migrate Exchange to a new machine. 2) Demote the existing machine to a member server. 3) Migrate file and print services to a new machine. 4) Remove the the old machine from the domain. Thank s for all you help. And sorry for my slow response. Jake
