Issues with IP Virtualization on a Server 2008 R2 VM
-
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 7:46 PMI recently installed a Server 2008 R2 RDS Session Host server as a VM and have not been able to get IP virtualization going as of yet. I enabled IP virtualization in Per Session mode and would like it to pull addresses for client sessions from the DHCP server, but additional addresses do not seem to be assigned to new RD connections. I validated that the DHCP server is dishing out addresses appropriately otherwise. The Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\TerminalServices-TSAppSrv-TSVIP\Admin log shows me that the Remote Desktop IP Virtualization has started, but offers no other information. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JeffreyOlson,
Thanks for posting here.
If I understand you properly we want every terminal session to get a dynamic IP address by using a virtual interface when they logon to this terminal host ?
It’s appreciate that you can explain your goal in detail .
Thanks.

Thursday, May 24, 2012 12:44 PMThank you Tiger. That is exactly correct. I want each session established on the Remote Desktop Server to get it's own DHCP-issued address. We are working with an application that retrieves data from an AS400, however, with a single address for the terminal server it appears to randomly decide which session to render the data in. My plan is to use IP virtualization so that the requesting IP is the IP that should be responded to.

Hi,
Thanks for update.
I am afraid that we can’t do that with terminal service only but will suggest to achieve with internal VPN service .By creating virtual connection interface for each user session on terminal service we can obtain dynamic address form VPN service’s address pool or internal DHCP server:
Intranet-based VPNs
