    I am trying to configure two network ports on a new server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard).  The ports are configured as follows:

        Network 2    (Public Network)    LocalAreaConnection
            IP Address     98.175.96.244
            Subnet Mask    255.255.255.224
            Gateway             98.175.96.225
            DNS                     68.105.28.16    68.105.29.16
        Newtwork    (Private Network)    LocalAreaConnection2
                Obtain an IP address automatically (Local/Internal DNS network)

    The Private Network (Internal DNS server) appears to be working properly.

    The Public Network (Fixed address, mask, (et.al.) assigned by network provider) does not respond to pings, or other commands.

    How do I enable the public network?

    Hi Darrel,

    I wonder why did you post in this forum; there seems to be confusion about what this forum is about. I'm interested to know, could you please clarify?
    This is a development forum for Windows Home Server & Small Business Server Essentials.

    Mark,

    I choose this forum since it looked like the best choice for information on setting up networks on a server.  The choice of forums on the MS websites are keyed more for knowledgeable MS employees, and not for struggling users trying to configure MS products.  As in the past, I know that my posts will be directed to the best forum.

    Anyway, after a long hard day trying to get it to work - Today, I tried the old tried-and-true adage for MS products - When all else fails - reboot, and I am getting better results.

    I looked at your link - I do not need a PHD in dual networks, but need to know how to make them work on MS products - AH for the good old days of UNIX......

    Hey Darrel,

    It's because we are looking into cleaning up our Server Solutions SDK forum which is meant for developers but has a lot of off topic posts in it.

    The problem is that people then don't get the required response or no response because the people/moderators watching that list don't have any or few knowledge of those topics.
    So the link I gave you was from trying to find you an answer for a topic I don't have a lot of knowledge about as it is not related to our forum.
    And that explains your reaction 'I do not need a PHD...'.

    Good luck finding an answer to your question and thanks for the clarification.

    So can we brown internet form this server right now with current settings ?

    By default incoming ICMP Echo Request message will be blocked if we set to use “Public ”firewall profile for an interface . So could we please enable this exception with following the workaround in link below first?

    Meanwhile, have you tied to track the traffic by using command “pathping” or “tracert” ? could you show us the route table here ?

    Meanwhile, we need to enable NAT with RRAS on this server if trying to share the internet connection for computers in internal network :
