Creating remote app collection

I'm trying to create a new session collection to distribute remote apps. I'm doing this on the one 2012 RDS server I have on my domain. But when I get to the screen in the wizard where you select the RD Session Host server to use, my RDS server isn't listed.
Can't use my RDS server as a regular RDS server and also as a session host server for Remote Apps? Or does it require an RDS server not being used for anything else? If I am supposed to be able to use my one RDS server, what do I need to change on it to get it to show in the list to be used for Remote Apps as well?

Hi Jonathan,
You can use the Quick Start deployment setup for RDS on Server 2012, this will install all the required r
oles on one server and create an example collection with Calcultator, Paint and Wordpad as RemoteApp's

Our RDS server is already setup and has been in production for some months so we can tear it down and redo it using that method. All RDS roles are installed except for RD Gateway which we don't need for external access. We're now trying to figure out how to add Remote Apps so that laptop and tablet users on the LAN don't have to login to an RDP session to run programs installed there but can just run the programs via the Remote Apps.
However, when trying to create a new session collection, the server isn't showing up in the list of RD Session Host server. So I'm trying to figure out why it's not showing in the list.

Hi,
There is a restriction here, a RD Session Host server can only be added to one Session Collection.
Also, you cannot mix and match Remote Apps and Full Desktops in a single Session Collection. A Session Collection can only be of type "Remote Desktop" or "Remote Apps". By default a Session Collection is of type "Remote Desktop" (assuming you did a Standard Deployment) and as soon as you publish the first Remote App the type of the Session Collection changes to "Remote Apps" and the shortcut to Full Desktop is no longer there.

Ah, that explains everything. Since we need to retain our current Desktop RDS server, we will need to setup another RDS server as a remote app server. Thank you very much!

I have one other question.
When adding the RD Gateway role, I get to a screen dealing with the self signed certificate. Do I use the internal FQDN suchas servername.domain.local or the external FQDN (that internet users will use) such as appserver.domain.com?
