Answered remoteapp & dropdown menu

We're making Nextgen EPM (an application for electronic healthcare records) available as a remoteapp.  When run inside the standard remote desktop, dropdowns function normally.  When run as a remoteapp, clicking a dropdown results in a flicker, but the dropdown doesn't function.  RDC client version and client O/S do not appear to have any impact on the situation - the behavior is the same across the board.  So...I'm stumped.  Is this an application programming issue, or the need for some hotfix that I haven't found, or...?  Similar posts do not appear to present a solution.

What version of RDC are you using to connect? Is this server 2008 R2?

These hotfixes may be of use:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979425 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968358

    Sorry, that's a key detail I left out - it's WS08r2...

Clients are XP, or Win7.  The client O/S and TS client version do not appear to matter.  I can replicate the problem from a Win7 client with the latest and greatest TS client, or an XP client with an older TS client.

    Hi,

Please refer to the following articles describe some common issues when using the RemoteApp.

    RemoteApp:

981156 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;981156 )   RemoteApp applications are displayed as black windows when you restart the applications in a Remote desktop connection in Windows Server 2008 R2

970689 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;970689 )   A Windows Server 2008-based terminal server denies connection requests with the error message "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute" randomly under a heavy logon/logoff condition

983533 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=983533 )  The pop-up windows are hidden and the TS RemoteApp application stops responding in Windows Vista, in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008, and in Windows Server 2008 R2

979425 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;979425)   A combo box item in a RemoteApp application is updated incorrectly when you connect by using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 7.0

In addition, we can run the RDS Application Compatibility Analyzer to check whether this application is compatible with the RemoteApp.

How to detect RDS-specific application compatibility issues by using the RDS Application Compatibility Analyzer

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2010/01/19/how-to-detect-rds-specific-application-compatibility-issues-by-using-the-rds-application-compatibility-analyzer.aspx

    Thanks.

    Hi -

Unfortunately, none of the listed hotfixes resolves the issue, though 983533 seems to lessen the exaggerated behavior of the drop-downs (the drop-down appears briefly, then disappears).  The RDS App. Compatibility Analyzer won't work, either, as it's a 32 bit app running on a 64-bit TS O/S.

    Hi,

As this is a third party application, I suggest you to contact the Application Vendor and specifically ask them if their application is compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2 RemoteApps, and if not, ask if they have an update for the application which is.

By the way, do you have any remained update patch on your server? If so, please install it.

    Thanks.

Hi there, I found this post, although old, I was hoping to touch base with you about running NextGen over a Remote App session. Were you ever able to get this figured out? We are trying to deploy Nextgen in the same fashion, but can only get it to load up for Administrator, the domain users are not able to launch the program at all.
