    I have a Windows XP Pro machine and need to administor a couple of Windows 2008 servers in our building, just general active directory stuff. What should I use to get to the servers remotely on my desktop XP machine? I found Remote Server Administration tools for Windows Vista and Windows 7 but nothing for XP. So my question is what does everyone normally use to get to the servers?

    sorry?

    you need to connect remotely from your XP PC to your 2008 servers?

    From XP machine - Start, Run:

    mstsc -v IP_address

    ( Check if remote desktop is enabled on the servers, and firewall don't block the traffic )

    If it's AD you don't actually need to RDP to the servers, yo just need to install the adminpak on your machine (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16770) and run the console you need with the appropriate credentials of course (in this case dsa.msc)

    In a lot of ocasions and as best practice you will do your administration via remote consoles (mmc) and not by actually logging on to the servers

    Hi,

    If you need to manage multiple servers, we suggest you using the Remote Desktop Connection Manager.

    RDCMan manages multiple remote desktop connections. It is useful for managing server labs where you need regular access to each machine such as automated check in systems and data centers. It is similar to the built-in MMC Remote Desktops snap-in, but more flexible.
