Unanswered Unable to Update Network Access Policy

Windows Server 2008 R2 with latest service packs and patches as of April 1.

This is a remote desktop services gateway.

When I went to the RD_CAP connection authorization policy and, under the Device Redirection tab, tried to make some changes I got the following error:

WMI Failure:  Unable to update network access policy.  One of the parameters to the call is not correct.

I was attempting to allow drives and clipboard redirection.  The above error appears as soon as I click the Apply button.

Thank you all for your assistance.

EDIT:  I am able to get the desired results by creating a new policy and disabling the old one, but this is clearly not ideal as I don't want to create new policies every single time I want to make a small change.

There were no errors in the event log that I could find regarding this error.  The popup dialog which gave the error I mentioned above is all I get.

    Hi,

Per my previous experience, this WMI failure error message may be reported if the TEMP system environment variable is configured for a different volume than the system volume.

To check this, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings and click the Environment Variables button.
Under the System variable section, let's verify that both the path of TEMP and TMP environment variables(for both USER and SYSTEM) are configured to be on the same volume as the system volume.  By default, it is set to %systemroot%\temp.

    Best Regards,
    Steven Xiao

    Steven,

I'll check this out and get back to you.  Thank you very much for your assistance.

In the meantime, I would appreciate it if other overzealous users did not mark possible replies as the answer until I've had a chance to verify this.

    Mr. Xiao,

For the USER VARIABLES FOR ADMINISTRATOR

    TEMP:  %USERPROFILE%\appdata\local\temp

    TMP:   %USERPROFILE%\appdata\local\temp

    For the SYSTEM VARIABLES

    TEMP:  c:\windows\TEMP

    TMP:   c:\windows\TEMP

Shall I change the User Variables?

    Hello,

Your current configuration is the default settings therefore please don't make modification about it.

Would you please test modifying the CAP when the related rule is in a "disabled" state?

On the other hand, where do you store your RD CAPs? On the local RDG or the different server that is running NPS role?

    Best Regards,

    Steven Xiao

I have the same issue.  I have tried setting the rule to disabled when creating it, but get the same error.  I'm trying to create the RD CAPS on the local server that runs NPS and RDG.
