Don't blindy say You might download it from Intel's site. i don't find any audio(Sigmatel Audio Drivers) drivers for windows 2003 server in Intel Site.

If you can find the Xp drivers run the setup.exe with

    WINDOWS COMPATIBILITY MODE Windows XP

    Then start the service by:

Instructions for enabling the audio service.

    Administrative Tools->Services

You will need to go to services Locate Windows Audio

    right click

    go to properties

    set to automatic

    click OK

Go back to service and right click then start.

    Hi,

If the audio service is running, as far as I know, that driver should work. This question would be better asked in a Windows Server 2003 forum or newgroup. This newsgroup is for Server Core, a minimal installation option for Longhorn Server that doesn't include sound support, so I haven't worked with audio on server in quite some time.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

    Andrew

    Hi Vivek,

I was having the same problem.

    1) I enables the Windows Audio Service
    2) I went to the device manager and uninstalled the SIGMATEL device
    3) I ran "scan for new hardware"

Then it found the SIGMATEL as it usually does every time and then said it needed to install the driver. I clicked next and then it gave a WHQL warning which it never did before and then it installed the driver...

    Yippee Hay !!!

Note: Windows* Server 2003: Intel® Desktop Boards do not currently support Windows Server 2003. There are no drivers available for this operating system.

That's what the Intel website said about my video chipset too (945GM) and the XP drivers worked fine.

In regards to Sigmatel Audio, Windows Update supposedly had a driver but installing it made no difference.  In my case (and I think the original poster's too) we are talking about Dell Inspiron notebooks and unpacking the drivers given by Dell, deleting the High Definition Audio Device in the device manager, clicking "Scan for changes" and browsing the WLM directory where the drivers were unpacked (generally c:\dell\Rxxxxx) does the trick, if the windows audio service is enabled.

    Hi,

Try to use this driver: R122161 from Dell. Try to install it the normal way first. If that doesn't work:

    1) Unpack it to a directory
    2) Go to Services (start/run/services.msc) and make sure the Audio service is enabled, and started.
    3) Go to device manager, and delete anything related to Sigmatel
    4) Click "Scan for new hardware."
    5) When prompted to pick a driver, pick "Have disk" and browse to the WDM directory in the folder where you unpacked the drivers. Typically c:\dell\drivers\R122161\WDM

It would also be helpful if you could describe the exact errors you say you are having when installing the drivers that came with your lapto (i.e. error codes or messages.)

    Good luck,

    Pascal.

PS: If none of this works, you could consider purchasing a USB sound device. Please keep in mind that you will need to have the Audio service enabled for this to work as well.

Thankyou very much pascal. It did work for me and I don't even have to browse the file. I simply downloaded the driver R122161.EXE from Dell's site and installed that. It's working perfectly OK.

    Thanks again...

    Heya,

I don't have the same OS as you but I was having brutal problems with my SigmaTel drivers not recognizing a mic.

SigmaTel was bought by another company which pretty much decided to scrap any sort of driver updating for old SigmaTel products. This left most people using said products in a bad spot - most people I spoke to told me I was out of luck and would need to just go buy a dedicated sound card.

However, you can go to the Intel site and download the updated drivers for your motherboard. I did this and everything works perfectly fine. You just need to know what type of motherboard you have (which you can do through your computer's diagnostics tool), go to the site and do a search for drivers specific to it.

    Hope that helps!

Here is what I did and it works great! I got sound. I use dell E1405 and use R122161 for XP.

    1. Enable Windows Audio Service. (This should already be enabled in 2003 Standard Edition). For other versions:

Go to Start/Run and type "services.msc" then hit the 'Enter' key (or click 'ok'). The Services window will appear. Scroll down until you find "Windows Audio" towards the bottom of the list. Double click on it and change the Startup type to Automatic, then click Start, Apply, and OK.

    2. Download and install the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 KB901105 update from this Microsoft page:

    link

    3. Restart.

    4. Install the Sigmatel audio driver (I use  R122161)  for Windows XP. To find it for your model use the "Drivers and Downloads".
