32 bit CPU, 64 bit Bus

Sunday, April 15, 2012 9:39 PMI have an HP ML350 G3 machine with a Xenon CPU. The machine has several 64 bit expansion slots, but if I try to install 64 bit OS it says I have a 32 bit CPU. how can a 32 bit CPU have 64 bit slots?

Hi,
In my research, HP ProLiant ML350 Generation 3 server has Intel Xeon 3.06GHz processors. That is really a 32 bit processor, so it only support 32 bit Operation System. You can’t install 64 bit OS on it.
64-bit PCI-X expansion slots are simply double-width versions of the standard 32-bit ones, to provide higher bandwidth. They have nothing to do with the actual CPU architecture.
