Connect other servers to 2012 Essentials

Just installed a Server 2012 Essentials, migrating from a hodgepodge of servers on a network (we're consolidating and getting rid of extraneous nonsense). For the immediate future, I'd like to get some or all of the old servers included on the Dashboard for the 2012 Essentials machine.
I though that the 'connect' command would work, but I'm getting error messages on each server I try it on. The servers are a Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 (not R2), Server 2008 Enterprise R2, and a Server 2003 Standard SP2.
Suggestions?
