File screening in windows server 2008 core
- Hi,
I have four fileservers, which of two are normal windows server 2008 and the other two core -installations
All of them are providing access to our DFS namespace. On the full servers I have configured file screen that prevents users from
saving audio and video files in theis home share. How can I enable this screening on core server? There is obviously no FSRM on
core server, but is there a command line tool for this? I also tried connecting FSRM remotely to core server, but with no success.

Hello Jere,
Yes, you are right. The FSRM is not available for Server Core installation of Windows Server 2008. As the SKU of File screening which includes in FSRM is not available on Server core, I am sorry to say that we cannot use file screening on server core installation of Windows Server 2008.

Is File Server Resource Manager available in all editions of Windows Server 2008?
File Server Resource Manager is available in all editions of Windows Server 2008. However, it is not available for the Server Core installation option of Windows Server 2008.

If you want to use it, please consider upgrading to Windows Server 208 R2 Server Core installation.

- Hi David,
Thank you for your answer. I'm afraid upgrading to R2 is not an option right now, but I need to
look into it (I'm working on 2010 budget right now). Basically I have two immediate options;
either replace core installations with full ones or remove unwanted files with a script.
