raid 10 resize partition
- I have a server with windows server 2000 on it with a raid 10 configuration. The raid 10 has two partitions, one that is 8 gigs(stupid previous admin i know) that holds the os, and 25 gigs that holds a database that the server is used for. I want to shrink the db parition and make the os partition larger. Do i need to convert the partition using a partition manager to a basic configuration and then resize the partition and after that convert it back to dynamic raid 10? Or do I have to backup everything and then reconfigure the raid then copy it back?
Thanks

You could resize it with Acronis or Partition Magic. This is however not supported.
If your RAID is hardware-based I'd recommend backup, reconfigure your hardware controller with two volumes with the desired size and then re-install with a final restore.

Does partition magic work on Server 2003?
Owner, Quilnet Solutions- Partition magic doesn't work on Server 2003, if you need to resize partition on Server 2003, you may try partition magic alternative, it works well on either 32bit or 64bit server with RAID configuration, see http://www.partition-tool.com/partition-magic/windows-server-2003-resize-partitions.htm
But if you have dynamic disk like joshin2472003 , you cannot resize it directly, you can use the copy dynamic volume feature of the same SW to copy it to a basic disk and resize, if you wish, you can conver to dynamic again in disk management, see copy dynamic volume tutorial
- Since it is a dynamic disk, there is no other way to extend the OS partition with the Disk Management tool built-in Windows System.
Furthermore, there is no advanced way to extend it with some partition software like Partition Magic or Acronis.
However, there is still way to realize it and with all the data be protected. Backup the partition to another disk and convert the disk to basic and then extend it.
