Here is an oddity that I can't seem to wrap my head around and my colleagues are stumped as well.  I have a server share and for troubleshooting purposes I've set up both share and NTFS permissions on the folder to be everyone/full.  Now in my environment staff have their home folders on one server, and students have theirs on another.  Shared folders for staff so they can deliver work to students are on the "staff" server.  When you attempt to connect to the share (ex: smb://server/share) as a staff member, you are shown the share.  If you attempt to connect to the student, you are denied access.  Now these Mac's are bound to the domain using the directory utility correctly since they are properly authenticating logons.  I don't know what to troubleshoot or reconfigure either on the Mac or Windows side to determine what is causing this issue.

Any advice is greatly appreciated from the community.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Are the two shares (staff, students) on the same Windows server or two different servers?

Please specify the version of Windows involved 2k3 or 2k8

My guess is that the Mac uses NTLM authentication by default and your failing share is on a Windows server that disallows NTLM - but there is not enough data provided to say for sure
