SBS 2011

Friday, January 18, 2013 8:00 PMHow is one supposed to install the 90 day trail version of SBS 2011; which is a 6+ gb .iso file downloaded to the hard drive. I happen to have several image burning apps, ie. Imgburn, but because of image size, cannot burn/ convert this file to an installable because of file size. Programs default to DVD burner. This also being .iso, could be used in a VM environment, but minimum install requirements are pretty steep; tried it last nite, was going well until it stopped because of 120gb minimum HD req. Must now go purchase a larger HD, then reinstall OS, apps, the whole kit-n-kaboodle. Help?

Hi:
You should either run on a VM as you have attempted, or place the extracted file on a 8 GB USB key that is bootable. There are lots of informational sites on how to make a bootable USB key, but if you need additional assistance you could ask here.

Monday, January 21, 2013 12:43 AMHi Larry, Thanks for the headsup. One of the add'l. issues not mentioned earlier, was available HD space to accomplish the installation on the machine where I had installed VMware. Just picked up a 1 TB HD and more memory; now to rebuild from scratch one of my spare boxes, install VMware, and give it another try. Will let you know if successful. Thanks again for your assist.

Hi Yag, Thanks for the reply. May use your suggestion as a backup plan. But as time is of the essence; SBS is a 90 day eval. and I currently do not possess a DL writer. Will keep you posted as well. Thanks, Q.

I recently had a similar issue and used the Microsoft Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool which allows making USB devices bootable from ISO files. It is not limited to only Windows 7, it creates any ISO bootable.
