Transition From Windows 2000 To Windows 2008 Standard

Saturday, June 30, 2012 9:21 PMDear,
I have successfully transit from Windows 2000 To Windows 2008, I have transferred FSMO roles to Windows 2008 Machine. Now my old windows 2000 domain as acting like Backup server and New windows 2008 domain is working as a Primary Server. All users got replicated From old domain to new domain. I have some below doubts:
1. How i can demote the Windows 2000 Machine.
2. Before demoting the windows 2000 domain, What are the test to be done so that after demoting i don't face any issue
3. Forward look up zone replicated to New windows 2008 Domain from Old 2000 domain but reverse look up zone does not get replicate from Old Windows 2000 domain.
Regards,

Hello,
is the reverse lookup zone set to AD Integrated DNS?
BEFORE demoting assure the new DC is also GC and that ALL domain machines are confiugred to use the NEW domain DNS server on the NIC, none else.
Please see my blog http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/archive/2010/02/06/upgrading-an-active-directory-domain-from-windows-server-2000-to-windows-server-2008-or-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx about the demoting from the old DC and required steps/tasks you should do.
Do NOT forget to reconfigure the time service on the NEW PDCEmulator http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/archive/2010/06/27/time-configuration-in-a-windows-domain.aspx
Demoting itself is just using "dcpromo" and then following the wizard to remove the old DC.
