Tuesday, October 11, 2011 5:45 PMPlease tell me how to restore "Start" icon and all other icons that had been shown at bottom of my desktop screen. When my computer starts up, all that is shown are the various icons that I had designated to be shown on the desktop.

Depending on your OS, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318027 could be useful. There you can find some methods on how to restore the Windows taskbar.

By the way you can try Ctrl+Esc shortcut to check if that appears again or press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, it will open task manager and then in the file menu click new task. It will open run box, type explorer.exe and it will bring up all the icons and taskbar back to the desktop. however it may be the problem of explorer.exe file corruption or some kind of infection or improper upgrade and inbuilt graphics adapter of your motherboard. follow the link that will help you resolving the issue if caused by graphics adapter

Hi,
It looks like the user profile is corrupted.
Based on the current situation, please try to create a new user account to check the result. If the new user profile works fine, you may move the profile from the corrupted one to the new one and delete the problematic one after everything works.
If it does not work, please also try to test the issue in Clean Boot to check if there is any third party software conflict. For the detailed steps, please refer to the following Microsoft KB article:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
What’s the result in Clean Boot?
