Network Printer Enumeration On Windows 2008 32 Bit Enterprise Server With RDS

Trying to enumerate roughly 40-50 printers, any method we try minus making them a local printer object Windows 2008 32-Bit takes at least 5 minutes to enumerate the printers when a user (Admin or Regular) open Control Panel -> Printers. We run this same task on a Windows Server 2003 box and I either need to know if 1) the backend printing mgmt in windows has changed and this is how 2008 is gonna be or if there is a setting that needs to be adjusted in windows 2008 to turn-off whatever is causing the enumeration to take so long.
Thanks,
joe Ervolino

Hi,
Did you have this issue in all Windows 2008 Server or just some specified Windows 2008 Servers?
The Print Services role in the Windows Server 2008 operating system includes two primary tools that you can use to administer a Windows print server: Server Manager and Print Management.
Print Management was introduced in the Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system and has been enhanced in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Server Manager and its integration with Print Services is new for Windows Server 2008.
The following sections describe the new Print Services functionality in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
- Integrated ability to deploy printers by using Group Policy
- Import and export capabilities for print queues
- Improved Event Viewer event descriptions and resolution information
- Improved Help content
- Printer driver installation security improvements
- Printer-driver packages
- Printer filter improvements in Print Management
- Print Management performance improvements
- Server Manager integration
- Print Management opens more quickly
- Sorting of printers and print servers takes less time
- You can now add a large number of servers to Print Management simultaneously by pasting a list of servers into the Add/Remove Servers dialog box. You can separate server names using spaces, commas, or line breaks.
Among them, “Print Management performance improvements”, the performance of Print Management when managing or monitoring large numbers of servers has been improved in the following ways:
So new feature should improve performance to sorting of printers not degrade performance. Check event viewer and post related event logs. Also run auto update to install latest Windows update.
