Recieve "RPC Server is unavailable" when joining XP workstation to 2003 domain
-
Thursday, February 14, 2013 3:52 PMMy domain is a WAN spread over the US. We run Server 2003 and Windows XP Pro. We have three DCs in NY, one in GA and one in CA. We use images to make new workstations and then run a script from our headquarters to join new workstations to the domain. We have a new location in WA, and have struggled over connectivity. We think the firewall there is configured correctly now - a network guy watched the traffic while we ran our join script, and he could see the packets flowing from us to the workstations and back. Then all of a sudden, the workstations sent a FIN packet, and we received the error, "The RPC Server is unavailable." The workstations can ping our domain (DC1 replies), and the DNS configuration on the workstations is correct. We can join workstations from other locations with no problem. I also tried to have the tech on the other end join one of the computers using computer properties. He received an error that "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation." Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here? Any help is much appreciated.
