Printers required rights to a network folder

Answered Printers required rights to a network folder

    Hi

Using Windows Server 2008 and a Lexmark Printer x466de on a domain

On the printer i've installed the module to send a scan to a shared network folder

The shared network folder is on the server and is full access to "everyone" (sharing tab)

Then i'm using NTFS security to allow specific rights for users or group in the folders under it

I've created in Active Directory an account with a static password to be able to create files on the specific folder

This account is member of Domain User and he has enought ntfs rights on the folder in question (all but full control, take ownership and manage)

If i try to send a scan to the network folder, i'll get a message on the printers that i'm not allowed

Now if i give the account Administrator Rights in AD, it works perfectly ....

I could leave it as is ...as noone has the password....but still i'd like to restrict all rights to just what it needs to do the job

    Anyone has any idea?

    Thanks

Is the taskuser able to manage the printer? Set the security options for the taskuser to Print, Manage this printer and Manage documents.

I'm not sur i'm following you

I gave alot of details but to simplify:

I wan't my MFP to be able to scan something and send it to a network folder

This network folder is on the server

For the printer to proceed, i'm using the username/password authentification

The printer won't send the scan to the network unless the account is administrator....

At first i gave only "domain user" ...but the printer would say that it's not allowed to proceed...

This account has NTFS rights on the folder, so the NTFS shouldn't be an issue

Now do i understand that i should give the account "Manage Documents" rights? (cause i don't think print and manage the printers is of any use, not using taskuser but it's the same point i beleive)

I'm not a certified AD admin or whatever, but i do have good knowledge of some items, some other less....  let's say GPO and AD is easy to configure

First off, if you log into a workstation with that account, does accessing the share actualy work ? (a log from restriction, log hour, etc.. can restrict the user account)

Try to give the taskuser the rights to "Manage Documents" on the printer.

No it actualy doesn't .... lmao

I don't know if the expression in english "I'm not out of the wood" ...as french is .... but yeah well everyone in the office is admin ...and the only gpo used grant barely everything..... otherwise you don't even have the rights to log onto a computer

So i'll think about it....what to do next....

Thanks all for your suggestion ^^
