Answered Windows Update Error Code 80240038

    If there is any proxy, bypass the proxy and set the servers to connect to Internet directly. Turn off any antivirus and firewall products on the server. If still no joy, try the below steps:

    1. turn off Windows Update service.
    2. empty the folder C:\Windows\softwaredistribution
    3. turn Windows Update Service back on and test again.


    Run System Update Readiness tool and post the CheckSUR log if any errors are found.

    I did all that and I'm still getting the error. Here is what the CheckSUR log shows.

    By further research, some have fixed this error by reset Internet Explorer.

    To reset IE go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset...>Reset.

    I tried that and it just changed the error to Code 8024402F

     Answered
    I found that there was a proxy server in place that was causing the issue. I had the proxy admin add the servers into the exception list of the proxy server so I could bypass it and then updates installed without any issues.
