    Hi,

My windows 7 professional will not connect to a domain, Can someone please walk me through this, I know how to go to my computer and settings to connect to a domain but an error message comes up that it will not connect to the active directory. Someone please walk me through this and the procedures that i might have to do on the server computer, thank you very much.

On a side note, anyone know how to install exchange server 2007 on windows server 2008, the hub transport, and client access role fails when installing exchange.

    Thank You!

Please post unedited ipconfig /all of AD/DNS server and problem client.

I'd ask them over here about exchange.

Need server for rest of story.

Make sure local DNS server has own address as primary and 127.0.0.1 as secondary (assuming only one DNS server) in network connection properties and is not multi-homed. Also put public DNS addresses as forwarders only on local DNS server. Client should have local DNS address only so client can find and logon to domain. Forwarders are so clients can find and resolve internet queries.

Server has integrated AD/DNS role, yes? Local DNS server should have 192.168.1.142 (self) as primary and 127.0.0.1 as secondary (assuming only one DNS server) in network connection properties. if you're going to use router as DHCP server then it should hand out 192.168.1.142 for DNS and put ISP DNS addresses in as forwarders on local DNS server.

we have comcast as the ISP, This is a home server, i like using active directory, it works great with xp professional but it just wont connect with windows 7.

This part of setup is not optional. There's no way an AD/DNS domain will work correctly the way its configured.

Ok can you please walk me through this, See when i do change the IPV4 Settings it says the internet is not available,.

1.) Add the ISP public DNS addresses as forwarders on your local DNS server

2.) Your local DNS server should have 192.168.1.142 (self) as primary and 127.0.0.1 as secondary (assuming only one DNS server) in network connection properties

3.) In router DHCP server properties set DNS address as 192.168.1.142 Router is handling DHCP so you must put the address of your DNS server. Your local DNS server will pass internet requests to your ISP DNS servers for resolution.

4.) Restart server and clients. Note if you have a single DNS server it may take five minutes or so for DNS service to startup and be available.

  • Sunday, October 07, 2012 9:09 PM

    For what?

Also just noticed the server is also DHCP! It must have a static assigned address outside of DHCP server scope.

So i have to go to my router settings?
  • Sunday, October 07, 2012 9:32 PM

     Answered

    Yes both router and server.

1.) Set a static ip address on server outside of DHCP scope.

2.) Your local DNS server should have 192.168.1.142 (self) as primary and 127.0.0.1 as secondary (assuming only one DNS server) in network connection properties

3.) Add the ISP public DNS addresses as forwarders on your local DNS server

Thats so confusing im sorry i know stuff when it comes to servers, but i never had a problem like this.   So what ip address should i use for number 1. is there anyway some one can remote to the server computer?
  • Sunday, October 07, 2012 9:43 PM

You can just use 192.168.1.142 as address, 192.168.1.1  as default gateway, 255.255.255.0 as subnet mask

  • Sunday, October 07, 2012 10:19 PM

Use both addresses. Put them here. Right-click server name and properties.

     Then on forwarders tab
