    Hello.

I have just installed windows 7 and windows 2008 r2. I have set-up my domain and i am ready to connect my new windows 7 pc to the domain. but...... when i go to network, i cant see my DC, but when i go to network on my DC, i can see my windows 7 pc. Also when i ping my dc, it just says:

    C:\Users\PCAdmin>ping 192.168.0.10

Pinging 192.168.0.10 with 32 bytes of data:
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 192.168.0.10:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

but if i try to ping the computer name, it says:

    C:\Users\PCAdmin>ping TPSDC.Thepcsite.com
Ping request could not find host TPSDC.Thepcsite.com. Please check the name and
    try again.

when i ping the windows 7 pc its fine.

    Any help would be apreciated????

    Thanks

    Hi,

Please go over the network configuration on your client(s) and make sure that the DNS is your domain controller.
Windowd Firewall may also be blocking the ping(ICMP) request, you can verify this by turning it of for a short while.
How to turn the Windows firewall of(not recommended): http://windows.microsoft.com/nb-NO/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off    (the page might be in Norwegian, but the demo is in English)

When the server is configured as a domain controller, you might be having difficulties finding it when browsing the network/the domain unless the computer is a member of the domain. Are your computer suppose to be a member of the domian or a workgroup?

For browsing network you'll need to enable network discovery.

My windows 7 computer is connected to the domain, but still cant see the DC in the network browser. I can access shared folders so it isn't much of a problem now. but what i do have as a problem is this: I just connected my windows xp laptop to the domain, it connected, but it wont ping successfully. I changed the dns ip in the network adapter settings, but it just wont ping the DC, and the dc wont ping my xp laptop???

    Hi,

As Håvard Kristiansen mentioned, when the server is configured as a domain controller, make sure your clients DNS is point to your Domain Controller.

    Thanks.
