Seperate Domain Tree from Root Forest

I have a need to orphan a tree from a root forest. I know, this is not the proper way to do things but I have no choice at this time
I am in a company that has been sold off from our parent company. We are still connected at this time but they want to break the connection ASAP. Before they break the connection, they want to remove our tree domain from their forest.
My question is, can they remove my tree from their forest without causing my tree to stop functioning? I need to still be able to have my tree functional authenticating users.

Hello,
no, you cannot remove the tree from the forest that easy.
You have to use ADMT(free from Microsoft) or tools like Quest AD migration(not free) to migrate the tree to another new forest. Be aware that the domain name must be different.

Hi,> I have a need to orphan a tree from a root forest.
It’s better if we have a detailed description about your domain, forest and there structure.
You can use the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to perform object migrations and security translation as necessary so that users can maintain access to network resources during the migration process.
You might perform an interforest restructure for business changes, such as mergers or acquisitions or divestitures, in which your organizations have to combine or divide resources. As part of the restructuring process, when you migrate objects between forests both the source and target domain environments exist simultaneously. This makes it possible for you to roll back to the source environment during the migration, if necessary.
Splitting or cloning forests—for example, to accommodate divestiture of an organization—is not supported.
