which one is more stable ? Linux or Windows ?
- Hello friends :
I have heard from somewhere that linux operating systems are more stable than microsoft operating systems and their security level is more advanced than microsoft operating systems !!! Is that right ?
Please give me an article that compares theese two types of products !!!
Thank you.

- Friend, you cannot compare both the OS's. Server 2008 is by far the most secure OS that has been released. If you want to deploy 2008 and if you are good at configuring all the secutiry related components, rest assurred you will be fine.
Raj - I know that , but how can someone trust microsoft ?
i have a company with really top secret information , and i dont know what does microsoft do with these data ? you know that microsoft is a protected source operating system and we dont know that what is happening inside the code !!!
So it may send our secret information to its own servers !!!!
thats possible right !! but in linux we can view the source code and know what they are doing with our data !!!
" it is not my opinion , it is just a question "
thank you.
Network is my LOVE - friend, we are not here to compare. We are here to solve issues and help people around the world. this is not the best of the forum for comparision between the products.
if you have any technical issues, please post it here and we will be more then happy to help you.
Raj Excuse me , but i thaught forum is to solve problems , and this is my problem to choose one of these operating systems to implement in our environment .
sorry to disturb you and thank you.
Network is my LOVE- Go ahead with 2008 deployment and amke sure all the security settings are fine. It will work and will not relay any infomration any where as per your doubt.
Raj - Is your main concern the one you mentioned regarding Microsoft sending your "top secret" data to their servers? If that's the concern, then you can rest assured that's not happening. While MS code is not open source, they have published a LOT of information on what their code does. The Windows Internals books are a GREAT example of this.
As far as data being sent out of your network, you could simply capture/monitor network traffic coming from that server to see what data is getting sent to MS. With the millions of people running windows-based OS's, and the tens of thousands of security professionals that have monitored the data going to/from their servers, you can rest assured that no top secret data will be sent to them. Really the little bit of traffic you'll see going to MS servers are the windows update traffic, bug reports (if you chose to send them), etc.
Yes, Linux is open source. But unless you're going to pay a skilled programmer a lot of money to go through each line of code... what good does that do you? Also keep in mind that you have a lot of individual contributors developing modules for Linux, so if you're worried about malicious code, there is potentially a bigger window for a nefarious user to inject that malicious code.
To be quite honest, I think that the concern of sending sensitive info for either Windows, or any of the major linux flavors if nothing more than FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt), and can be safely ignored.
As far as which OS is more secure... there are so many things that goes into answering that question, that you are not going to get a complete answer here. I will tell you that configuration makes a HUGE difference, and overall, Windows/Linux will go back and forth as far as which is more secure depending on the criteria used for rating. You should REALLY consider which OS you have more expertise in since the biggest security hole you're going to have is poor configuration/management of the system.
Don't let the name of the OS choose which way you go just because of hype. Look at your requirements, and which OS works best in your situation (management, deployment, compatibility, etc.) I've used Windows for quite a long time, on sensitive systems, and will continue to.
Good luck,
Dan Holton - Thank you Dan , I like microsoft operating systems and servers very much , but you know sometimes it is important to know something about these types of questions that people asks us , and i wanted to just make sure about it and also to answer those who say something like that.
Thank you Dan i got my answer
Network is my LOVE - Please see this official Comparison chart from Microsoft.

- Hello,
we have also secret information in our organisation. And all the networks containing them are complete separated from the internet, so nothing will be sent to Microsoft or any other software vendor. And if your company has this kind of sensitive information you should do it the same way. Of course this maybe requires additional networks and hardware etc.
