    Hello,

We are planning to acquire a new hardware box to run Windows Server 2003 on it. Currently we have a Windows Server 2003 machine running with some CALs and TS. The question is... can we legally reuse all the involved licenses for the new machine taking into account that the old box will be decomissioned?. Should we inform shomehow to Microsoft about the move?.

Also, is there any problem (regarding licenses) on running such Windows 2003 virtualized?.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jose.

    Jello,

to reuse the TS CALs and the TS CAL server you have to contact Microsoft clearinghouse again for activation. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953918

More details you should ask in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverTS/threads

    Hiya,

As with most licensing question it really depends on alot of things. The easiest and is always recommended is to contact Microsoft licensing directly:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/

The "Contact Us" tab will give you the phonenumber that suits your region.

    Hi,

You can reuse the licenses if your old server is decommissioned, if it asks for reactivation you can call the Microsoft activation helpline and explain your scenario to them and they will reactivate the license for that server.
