Ran the system update readiness tool and manually tried the update but it says ...the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may be a different version of the program etc..

FTP 7.5 is installed and the FTP server is working OK.

That doesn't work either - the fix it is for a different version of Windows and the .Net repair makes no difference

If I look in Event Viewer it says a previous version is installed - however I already removed it before I installed FTP 7.5 and now I have FTP 7.5 installed, configured and working I do not want to lose the settings by removing and re-installing it.

    Hi Dave

Um..I don't think we need to repair install the entire operating system just because a Windows Update fails to be applied correctly. Also the original installation media does not contain FTP 7.5 which was an out of band update.

This is a vanilla install of Windows Web Server 2008 with FTP 7.5 added following MS procedures

Could you refer this matter to MS for me as this appears to be an untested scenario for update KB2716513?

Both x64 packages refuse to install.

ftp75_en_x64_kb2716513.msp error: The program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may be for a different version etc..

ftp75_loc_x64_kb2716513.msp error: The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2324.

Add/Remove programs shows FTP Service 7.5 for IIS 7 is installed and FTP is working OK

    Update will not install

    Hi,

I suggest uninstall OLD version of FTPServer which comes by default with Windows 2008. Then install the patch.

Your FTP server configuration will not be lost when you uninstall FTP 7.0 or FTP 7.5 entirely and then reinstall FTP 7.5.
FTP 7.0 is no longer available for download. When you use this workaround, you must reinstall FTP 7.5. We are not aware of compatibility issues between FTP 7.0 and FTP 7.5.

    Thanks.

Thanks Kevin. Your suggestion kind of works but it is not all good as the Windows Firewall is modified. Windows Updates should not require removal and re-installation of Services.

First I went to Server Manager, Role Services and removed the FTP Publishing Service, FTP Server and FTP Managment Console. The update then installed OK - I had to reboot the server.

Then in Server Manager I re-added the the FTP Publishing Service, FTP Server and FTP Management Console and all of the IIS FTP 7.5 settings were indeed retained OK.

NOTE - this process modifies the Windows Firewall - enabling the default FTP Server (Traffic In) rule which you may not want - by default all IP addresses are allowed access.

Gocat2005's solution worked in my case as well.

To be clear on the steps.

    1) Uninstall the 3 FTP services (FTP Publishing Service, FTP Server and FTP Managment Console).
    2) A reboot will be required to finish the uninstall
    3) Reboot again
    4) Install the hotfix
    5) Reinstall the FTP services.
    6) Deal with the Windows Firewall if needed.
