we're running WiFI infrastructure on windows 2003 radius with ssl certs. it works pretty well. however, we cannot get it running with windows 2008 radius. we'd like to debug it, but system events are clueless on that. how can we raise debug level of IAS/radius on windows 2008 ?

I have my .Net application running IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 64 bit architecture. Usually, it works fine but sometimes reports (developed in Crystal Reprots X) get blank and only header labels display and data is not displayed. The database is Oracle 11g.

When I re-start World Wide Web Publishing Service, it gets fixed.

Server 2008 SBS Changed Windows Font to Wingdings On Logon Page As Well As Other Places

So about 1 month ago I went to log on to my server just to notice that everything changed to Wingdings. This included the desktop, windows, well everything. I was able to change some of it back by usinging the personalize menu from the desktop. But, that didn't fix everything. I am still unable to read anything inside the windows. For example, everything in the Microsoft Update window is still in wingdings.

I have ran the sfc /scannow tool and it found no issues.

When I looked at the registery of my server (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\… NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts\) there is only one entry and that is (DEFAULT) REG_SZ (value not set)

I have been over 1000's of posts and have yet to find an answer. This is the only server in out production environment and I am unable to just take it offline to rebuild it.

I am hoping that someone else has seen this and is able to help.

I'm getting this consistantly on my new DC. I can confirm:

1. No internet connectivity issues; I can browse to the page
2. Proxy has been configured to "no proxy"

(all as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317541)

I usually get "the network connection does not exist" but occasionally get an HTTP 407. I've tried disabling AV during the download, but nothing.

By default when installing OS, is window media player installed on server 2003/2008? Also is there a way to disable WMP on server or block updates to media player? I don't want to use this OS component and yet there is no way to remove it.

Applying Personal Settings Freezes for User

I have a user that when he tries to login to any computer on at SBS 2008 network freezes at "Loading Your Personal Settings...". It does not load at all. But if he unpluged the network cable when it gets tot hat point it will log him in the he can plug it back in. It only happens for the one user and it happens on EVERY computer.

SBS Windows 2003 Premium with SP2 keeps getting a R6034 Runtime Error from system32\SearchFilterHost.exe saying an application has made an attempt to load the Visual C++ Runtime Library incorrectly.

The system doesn't seem to be degraded in any way. I've been simply closing the window.

It started after a series of updates about two months ago (September, 2009).

It happens randomly as far as I can tell. Sometimes there will be a dozen in a day and sometimes none.

I have seen some posts about IIS and R6034, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Any help is appreciated. It would be nice to get rid of the problem.

I have a Local Disk with NTFS, Capacity show "357.70GB", there have 123GB data.

the problem is, the free space show 249GB, and show used space is 107GB.

357GB - 123GB = 234GB (system show 249GB)

seem the display disk size is incorrect. missed 16GB data

In our company we use a windows 2003 x64 r2 sp2 in combination with a SQL 2005 server. We have a software that extracts product and consumer information from there. The program was developed in VB 6 and in one field it contains an arrow on which you can click to pop up a list of all products available. On most pc's it works perfectly on some it has a lagg like 1-10 minutes where nothing happends. I analysed networking devices and applications and so i did with the server. It seems to be a client problem in the software. It is strange that this happens at random and "infects" more pcs. I dont think its a virus or something cause we are working in a high security enviroment. I think its maybe a problem with incombatibility between server and clients. We use windows professional 2003 as end user interface. With the old Server (windows 2000) it hasnt been a problem for 3 years. Has anybody problems like this or know a solution ?

I have been trying to install a Seagate external USB drive for a customer on their Windows Server 2003. I keep receiving the error 'Windows could not load the installer for volume'. I have implemented a suggested solution which involved replacing .dll files such as sfcfiles.dll but this has not worked. Has anyone experienced this before or let me know other possible solutions?

Internet Explorer 8 not refreshing pages

I am having a weird problem where Internet Explorer 8 (in Windows Server 2008 R2) does not refresh pages properly. No matter what I do (clean cache) set days to store webpages = 0, etc., stale pages appear in the browser window. This strange behavior started back in August when I updated my Server 2008 R2 beta to the RTM version. Any ideas on what I can do?

Hello guys, first time I post, figured you guys would be able to provide me with the information I need. This is the first time I am setting up a server, so everything is a bit new to me still.

This is the situation: we have a small office with three computers, and I figured we could set up a server using some old hardware (for lulz, basically). This office is situated in a big building with many offices and computers, and there is one internet connection for the whole thing, which means we until now had different static IP's for all computers in the office .

Here is my plan: instead of all of our computers connecting directly to the internet and the house network, only the server would be connected to the house network+internet and it would then act as a DHCP server and share that connection with the other computers connected to it.

Old way:

I tried to set up DHCP on the server and I also tried to set up NAT, but to be completely honest, I'm not really sure what I technically want to do. I did manage to get the DHCP server running somehow, and I even got the clients to connect to the server (could browse shared folders), but I didn't manage to connect to the internet.

I would really appreciate someone holding my hand a bit and helping me out, would be great to get this working. I will of course provide any additional details.

Domain Controller Browser Events 8021 and 8032

The below events occur on a second Domain Controller (Windows Server 2003 SP2) at random times.
Interestingly it does not occur on the weekends.

Browser Warning 8021: The browser service was unable to retrieve a
list of servers from the browser master.

Browser Error 8032: The browser service has failed to retrieve the
backup list too many times on transport ... The backup browser is
stopping.

I am able to browse My Network Places and all the browstat checks were
okay (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188305).

I'm not sure what would cause these errors and how to make them stop?

Windows Server 2003 - FTP transfers whole file then timeout

Hello, I have an FTP site up and running as expected on a Windows Server 2003 IIS6 machine (that has Windows firewall turned on with an exception rule to let thru port 21) - all works well - I can configure the user to read and/or write (get/put) to the FTP server

I have a new Windows Server 2003 (that has Windows firewall turned on with an exception rule to let thru port 21) - the server allows me to download and upload however most of the time, when it gets to the end of the transfer, the whole file exists on the target (i.e. when uploading it exists on the server and when downloading it exists on the client), however the transfer task carries on as if there is more to download - the status of the transfer remains "in progress" until the server timeout kicks in and times out (and fails) the transfer (note the connection itself stays open, which is fine). I have used several FTP clients (including CoffeeCup, CuteFTP and DOS FTP) and all have the same result. Note that the FTP clients I have been testing are ones I have used numerous times on the previous server which appears to be configured (FTP site, Windows Firewall) the same however when connecting to the new server the behaviour is different

However ... when I turn off the Windows Firewall on the new server all works well - the FTP gets through, the file transfers and the FTP clients recognises the transfer is finished and completes successfully - hence it is not a permission issue on the FTP user

Note that I have tried using active and passive FTP and have tried in addition to opening port 21, I have opened port 20

Has anyone seen this before - I have looked around and although some people have had this no one seems to have found a solution

I am completely new to the server side of things & have a test configuration question. I am looking to setup a test machine at home that I would like to have Exchange, Share Point and the ability to host my own website as well as others.

I have installed SBS 2008 but then replaced it with Server 2008r2. I am wondering if running r2 with Web Server & SBS running as virtual servers in Server 2008 would be the best scenario. I like SBS features (Exchange & SharePoint & my website in there but want to put the other sites in a different OS. Is this a possible scenario? If not any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Also, any suggestions on tutorials for 1st timers, for setting these up?

Fresh install, reformatted drive and installed server 2003 sp2 updates. After updates are complete, the system restarts and from then on, I can't reach microsoft.com no other software is installed and nothing unusual during the updates.

Server Performance Report Email

I need to generate a report of general system performance of a server hosting several websites on a weekly basis. The server has Windows Server 2003 installed. I know how to configure performance counters. I need to be able to generate an email on a weekly basis with the data in it, preferably with a pretty graph (also easy to do manually).

Does anyone know of a tool, free or otherwise, that can do this? Or maybe a script of some sort that can convert the csv file into a graph in an html email? I've googled the ____ out of what I have in mind and can't find anything.

Window Small Business Server has a neat little system health email tool. Is there a version available for download for other Server 2003 installs (or a way to install the SBS tool on other servers)?

I have a server from one domain authenticating to a server in another domain in order to do backup. Every time it does the server being logged into shows error # 680 and 529 five times each. After that, the the backup server authenticates successfully and the backup runs as normal. Any ideas on how to stop the errors?

Why is the scheduler in Window Server 2008 not stopping?

Hello,

I am new to windows server 2008 and not sure what I am doing is correct.
I created a scheduled task in Windows Server 2008 scheduled to be run daily at a specific time at the highest privilege. The scheduled task was set to be hidden and run whether I log in or not. The task executes a batch file, which by itself does not take longer than 30 min to run as I have manually tested it. The task was scheduled to run at night. The next morning, when I came back to work, the batch file was run and completed but the task did not stop and had a code 0x0431. As a result, my batch file was not scheduled the day after as the previous scheduled task was still "running" and I did not allow multiple instance of that task to run. So, I have to force the previous task to stop for the next one to run. Is there a more elegant way to nicely terminate the task from the batch file when it completes and let it return a code of 0x0?

perfmon: logman -a option

Hi

I hope I am posting this question in right forum.. if it isn't, please help with providing path to correct forum or move it there.

Question:
I created a perfmon counter log using command:

logman create counter test_perfMon1 -cf "test-counters.txt" -si 00:00:15 -f bincirc -max 500 -a

I then started it using:

logman start test_perfMon1

it started and data collection happened as expected. I then stopped and verified the captured data. everything looks good.
next, I then restarted the counter using following command

logman start test_perfMon1

thinking that it will append to existing log file (-a option says same in logman help) however, when I checked, it overwrote the existing log file (my log file was c:\perfLog\Admin\test_perfMon1.blg).

I am doing something wrong here.. or doesn't -a append to exisitng log file?

login to RRAS and local users kicked out

I have Server 2003 and using RRAS. When I VPN into machine from a remote location the local users on the LAN cannot access the server shares and especially SQL Server - which kills their applications.
This server is in managed network - the network is not managed by me as my office is in one of those managed office buildings - Server and other machines are in limited pool of 10.32.11.x range and so I assigned the remote machines 192.168.2.x range. The server has a external private IP address so I can access from anywhere on internet.

I can VPN from a remote machine in and access shares and command line and services etc.. - but when I do this the user's in the office LAN are cut off from the server.

I'm trying to think why that would be. Any ideas where I can look?

Yesterday our file server experienced what I believe is called an 'event storm'.

The following event started to appear in the system log:

This event appears continually in the system log from mid-afternoon until the server was rebooted at 10pm.

I have googled this, and haven't come up with anything firm yet. There is a Microsoft Kb article about the error http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288301/en-us but the cause listed in the article is an app (VERITAS Storage Replicator) which is not installed on our file server, so I have had to discount that. We do have Veritas Backup Exec 10.0, but the file listed in the Kb article isn't present on the server.

Interestingly, this event storm appears to have over-loaded the local SCE service, which was gobbling up most of the CPU, no doubt by struggling to keep up with the alerts, which were running up to fifty times per second at times. The SCE service was disabled when the server came back up, though I am fairly certain the SCE service did not cause the fault, but was instead affected by it.

There is a DAS attached to the server, a Dell PV220, which is reporting no errors.

I know other people have experienced this issue, but I cannot find a definitive cause.

If anyone has gotten to the bottom of this faukt, I'd be grateful to know the answer.

Windows XP Error on login 1054

Hi,

I have problems with some Windows XP clients. When they start up the eventlog logs an error:

ID: 1054

The clients get their IP addresses from DHCP. DNS and DHCP is OK.
On the XP machines the actual Hotfixes and SP are installed. The Servers are Windows Server 2003 R2 with the actual SP and hotfixes.

What should I check to resolve the problem?

Good day all!
i have a problem with a windows server 2003 SP2 Standard 32bit RUS.
once a week this server comes to unexpected shutdown with the following error code: Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 03090518, parameter3 f60087c4, parameter4 f60084c0.
server's role is Fileserver.
installed software are Office, BioLink Idenium server (secure authentication). Antivirus softwsre is Dr.Web

searching through tecnet forums and sites brings me nothing.

File read time on a Win2003Server

Hi everybody

Related to a file-access-time problem in our principal project, I created a small tool which creates a 10MB textfile on a drive and reads 2.000.000 times 10bytes of it. ( read 10bytes, go 5 bytes back, read 10bytes, go 5 bytes back, etc ... till the end of the file)

On another test-system I execute the tool on a XP machine and manipulate the textfile on a linux server. This operation takes about 11 seconds.
The problem occurs with a XP machine which manipulates the textfile on a Windows 2003 Server machine.
Here, it takes more than 5minutes...

We checked already the server and client for another working processes which could propably slow down the communication, but there isn't anything.

It seems that only file-access operations have a speed problem on this client-server system.

Does anyone have an idea?
