The "New" option only appears when a Hyper-V host is connected to and selected.

If you select "Hyper-V Manager" in the tree, then there is no new, just Connect to Server.
If you Select "Hyper-V" in the tree, then there is just general health.

So, you are stating that your Hyper-V services are all running properly, you connect to the host, and you are not presented with the New option?

I would first check that all your services are running properly.

Oh, you also have to have the menu dropped when the server is selected - selecting your host on the left, then on the right you open the menu at the server name.

OK, I have clicked on the options on the left and created a "server01" (since I'm following the MCITP Ent Core books here) but there's still no option on the left for "New."  Furthermore, and even more confusing, is in the center pane it states that Microsoft Hyper-V on computer "Server01" has not been installed....how can that be when I'm in the manager?

I've checked the services menu and enabled anything I could find that sounded like it would help with snapshots and remote services, etc - but I saw nothing that referred directly to Hyper-V.

Thanks for your help so far, but I'm not there yet.  Yes, I plan on using this one little laptop to run my virtual network for my MCITP training...and I'm not there yet either, but I will be. :)

It is possible to install the Hyper-V management console without adding the Hyper-V role.

    Good luck to you.
