Reduce Memory of Pooled Virtual Machines from 2048 MB to 1024 MB
-
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 4:53 AMI setup 15 Virtual Machines in a VDI setup on Windows Server 2012 Data Center and the Setup changed the memory of the virtual machines to 2048 MB for each Virtual Machine. I don't need this memory and was wondering why it set the memory and does not use Dynamic Memory. These machines barely need 1024 MB each. Can I safely change this or not?

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 4:59 AMWhen I created the template I created it to use dynamic memory with 1024 MB however when it built the Virtual Machines it change the memory for each VM to 2048MB fixed. What are the memory requirements for these virtual machines. This is deployed on Windows Server 2012 x64 Data Center with Windows 7 Enterprise x86 Virtual Machines. I would like to change the memory but am not sure if it will work. Is there a document that explains the memory requirements for each virtual machine and are you allowed to change these?

Many our VDI are setup 1024MB and some of them even use 512MB with Dynamic Memory enabled. They work fine.If it is critical server, I may not set dynamic memory. Good luck!

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 5:28 AMThanks for your input Bob. Do I just change the individual VM(s) in Hyper-V or is there some way to do this globally. I thought it would use my template settings but it didn't. Thanks again.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 5:52 AMThanks to everyone who replied. I noticed that it will not allow me to change the memory until the VM has actually been provisioned and at that point I can change it and have changed it to 512 with dynamic min 512 max 2048. Thanks again.
