Cannot install Virtual machines in Server 2008 Hyper-V
I have installed the Hyper-V role on a new Server 2008 64 Standard HP box, which is running a Xeon quad E5420 2.50GHz with virtualisation on. 10GB of RAM and tons of disk space.
When attempting to build a brand new virtual machine from scratch, I can create a vhd Ok, but when trying to create the machine on Finish I receive an error:
"The server encountered an error while creating machinename.
Failed to create new virtual machine."
Can anyone advise where I am going wrong?
The box and the OS are brand new and the OS is fully patched and only running one other role - file services.
Thanks, C

- If you change the default paths for VM location, still get the error?

- Hi Vince, Jorge
The MS KB960024 resolved the issue.
I had already changed the default paths Jorge, but they were still UNC Shares. So when I changed them in the Hyper-V settings to:
c:\vm machines\
the new virtual machine was created as expected.
Thanks for the help - much appreciated.
